I was sitting in bed, getting some work done on the computer before heading off to work. As I was working, the cat came in and started swatting things off of the dresser. She found a pen, batted it around a few times, looked it over, and then sent it crashing to the floor. As I watched Velo ( out cat) I started to think about curiosity.

Even if you don’t like cats you’ve probably sat and watched at least one youtube video of cats doing strange things. I searched cats on youtube and got 15,900,000 hits, clearly we have an unhealthy obsession with cats doing strange things.

My theory is that we need to stop spending so much time watching curious cats and start being more curious ourselves.

As a teacher I find that my students won’t usually try new things because they’re afraid of making a mistake. The fear of failure stops them in their tracks. And it most likely is holding you back as well.

As in anything, if you want to be curious you need to start by making a conscious effort to ask questions and experiment.

Right now commit to doing at least one thing out of the ordinary this week. Drive a different way to work, eat somewhere totally new, take a class at the gym that you’ve been afraid to take.

Leaving your comfort zone and putting yourself in a new environmnet will help get your curiosity going.

Leave a comment telling me what you’re going todo this week to add curiosity to your life.
