How to have more free time as a parent.

When I was entering second grade, our teachers went on strike, causing school to start 2 weeks late.

It was wonderful. 2 more weeks of summer.

My brother and I were thrilled.

We spent the next two weeks at our grandmother’s house.

Her house was one of my favorite places to go. There were few rules, giant pillows, and even bigger fires.

There was a creek, a pond, and a farm with kids our age.

We spent most of the day at the farm, playing , ” kick the can” among the farm equipment. Played in the sheep pen and taunted the ram, running for the fence if he started to come our way.

We crawled through tunnels of hay, and went swinging through the barn on a rope swing landing .

There were no adults, ever. We were free to do as we pleased, returning home only when we got hungry.

As an adult looking back, I”m a bit surprised at the amount of freedom we had, but thankful.

We were allowed and encouraged to dream and explore. We were free.

Children are born with a natural curiosity, that is only lost when tampered with too many rules and right answers.

They need time and space to explore , and when we let them, they learn, they build and create memories, they grow.

The kids summer art exploration is about letting and encouraging their curiosity to flourish and thrive.

It’s about giving them a few tools, guidance, and letting them be the artist that they were born to be.

It’s about welcoming them into a gallery, making them feel safe and welcome and helping them to nurture and hold onto their creativity.

It’s also about giving you a break, letting you run some errands, or sit for two hours and sip a cup of coffee by yourself or with a girlfriend.

It’s about allowing, encouraging, and giving everyone the space they need to become who they were meant to be.
