Does Paper Weaving Have to Be Elementary?

Making a weaving sketchbook… playing with paper and new patterns.

Most people think that weaving, especially paper weaving is something to teach in elementary school. It allows students to use a ruler, scissors, work on fine motor skills and get an understanding of pattern, then we seem to abandon it. Thinking that it’s too simple or that doesn’t require any problem-solving skills and therefore isn’t worth teaching. As a teacher and a weaver, this mindset has bothered me for a long time, and I’ve finally decided to begin addressing the issue. ( I know not everyone thinks this way)

Let’s start by exploring how to draw/ design a weaving pattern.

In the next video, we’re going to learn how to take the pattern that you created in video one, and turn it into a paper weaving.
