You know that you love art and that you’re good at it, but you feel stuck in a rut, and like you’ve taken your work as far as you can without help. You’re thinking about wanting a creative career after high school, but you and your parents, just aren’t sure what your options are , what they look like, and what kind of skills you need to have in order to make them happen.
You’re staring to look at colleges, and you want to be sure that you are both prepared and that your high school transcript will get you accepted into the school of your dreams.
You know that art and creativity are important. Art tells stories, design changes lives, and creative thinking solves problems. You’ve always been complimented on your artistic skills and interest in the arts, now you want to develop and hone in your knowledge and skills.
AP Art courses are designed to help to build your skills, confidence, and help you to be better prepared for your creative future.
I’m both a teacher, and a working artist, which allows me to approach art from both sides of the coin. I”ll help you to understand:
- -Art History, why artist do what they do
- – Composition, how do you know when a work of art is done
- – You’ll learn to develop your own voice as an artist, and uncover how to show your voice in your work
- – You’ll get glimpses into the lives of other artist, and begin to understand the countless career options related to the arts
- – You’ll hone in on your skills, and develop new tricks and techniques
I’ve always been a firm believer that you should practice what you preach, so I’m both a teacher and a working artist. My medium of choice is textiles ( technique weaving), however I have a background in a wide range of materials and techniques. I’ve taught high school art, in one way or another, online and in person, for the past 9 years. I’ve taught, jewelry/metals, darkroom and digital photography, drawing, sculpture, along with all 3 AP courses.
Currently I work part time at a local art college in Continuing Education, teach AP Art courses online, teach courses out of my home studio, and run my textile business. While that may seem like a lot, my creative mind is always going , and my work overlaps a lot. We’ll get to know each other more in the course, but if you have questions, please feel free to email : firstname.lastname@example.org
