Where to buy a Portable Tapestry Loom
When I was in 3rd grade I designed these really awesome winter hats for all of my friends. I knit two rectangles, sewed them together, and then made pom pom balls to go on the two top corners.
Yes, they were amazing. No, I do not make them anymore. I retired the design, sometime in 1993.
It wasn’t until college that I began weaving, I’m pretty sure that I didn’t even really know what a loom was until I was in college, and while I’ve been aware of and in love with tapestry for years, it’s only recently that I’ve started to play with the idea in my work.
The wonderful thing about tapestry is that you can make it as complicated or as simple as you want. You can always be learning new techniques and creating new designs, which is why when I came across Mirrix looms I had a sudden urge to whip out my credit card and buy EVERY SINGLE SIZE.
While there are a lot of frame and tapestry looms on the market there are a few cool features about Mirrix looms.
- They are designed to hold tension( which is essential when it comes to weaving)
- They were designed by a weaver!
- They have a shed ( which if you haven’t woven before, trust me, is super helpful)
In the interview below, learn about how Mirrix looms got started, and why you might want to put on your shopping list.
