How to Earn Credit while Taking a Gap Year

As you finish your senior year of high school it can be hard to decide what to do next. Do you want to attend a 4 year college, get an associates degree, or take a gap year?

In case this is the first time that you’re hearing of a gap year, let me backup for a moment and explain what it is. A gap year, usually means that  you’re not sure what your next step after high school should be. It’s a year for you to explore, experiment, and get a better idea of what you want to do.

You might also take a gap year because you’re experiencing some academic burnout and need time away from the strict schedule of school, and traditional workload. Or, your grades might not be exactly what you need them to be in order to get into the school of your dreams, so you take a year to take a few classes or complete an internship.

Taking an AP ( advanced placement) class can be a great way to continue learning during a gap year, without having the burden of a full academic schedule.

Even better, taking an AP course online, allows flexibility in your schedule and location. You can still travel and or work while developing your artistic voice, or while taking a deep dive into art history. While AP courses aren’t for everyone, if you have a love for art or are thinking about exploring a career in the arts, it’s a great way to get started, build a solid foundation, and develop your portfolio.
