Weaving Ideas for Your Classroom
When working with fibers have students think of it as another tool to make lines and marks. This student used their sewing machine to create a drawing. ..
If you’re going to draw with a sewing machine do some tests with different weights of paper and stitch distance first. Thin paper with really close stitches will simply fall apart.
When exploring fiber arts, remind students that they can use fiber materials and techniques in a mixed media piece. Here’s a great example.

The yarn brings texture and dimension. This can also be a great way to use odds and ends of yarn.

Having students create mini looms in their sketchbooks is a great way for them to explore concepts and patterns. This can also be a fast and easy way to create a loom. .

Push the brads through the paper, then wrap your warp thread around each piece. .
