Do Understand what a Product SDS Is?

If you’re teaching in a school, your home, or a local studio, you want to be sure that you understand what’s in the art materials that you, your students, and your kids are using.

If you work at a school it’s likely that your school requires you to have the product SDS  ( we’ll get into what those are in a moment) for all of the art supplies that you use in your classroom.  Of course, if you’re making art with your kids at home, you’re not required to have these on hand, but it’s good to know where to find them.

What is the product SDS? SDS stands for Safety Data Sheet, and all products have one. You can find them, by googling SDS + the name of the product. Be sure to be specific. For example, you don’t just want to search Crayola Marker, you want to search Crayola Washable Marker or Crayola permanent marker.

In the video below we’ll review looking at two different products SDS.

Here is the one for Crayola Washable Markers.

Here is the one for Krylon Spray Paint

Keeping your supplies and SDS organized.

As you start looking over SDS sheets and see that they are different for each product name, you may decide to pick your favorite brand and stick with a brand. Having specific brands that you purchase over and over can make the process a lot easier, and make it so that you aren’t always pulling new SDS.
