Upcycled Art Projects

This is a canvas left over from a team building activity. The activity was more about teamwork than what the finished product looked like.
.
This one, along with some other canvases found their way to the trashcan. I, of course, took them out.
.
They’ve been sitting in my closet and it’s finally time for them to turn into something new.
.
How do you reuse artwork that no one wants

I cut the canvas off of the stretcher because I’m going to use the canvas more like fabric.
.
I’m working on creating with things that I have in my studio for a few reasons.
.
1. I love creating within constraints and a common one for me is to use what I have.

2. I find that really looking through the things that I have, makes me feel abundant. Instead of feeling like there is junk everywhere, I start to find the parts that I need to create.
.
3. It’s a great way to clean out the studio. ( more to come on this project)

If you haven’t noticed, I like to find ways to use what many of us already have, and often throw away. This is a good way to recycle, but it also cuts down on the cost of art supplies.

Below is a fun and simple way to turn your paper bags into portfolios.

I first learned about turning a paper bag into an art portfolio on Instagram, and was like how is this the first time I”m seeing this!!!!

It’s super simple, and smart. You can have your students or kids make these to store their art, or make a few for yourself like I did, to help organize all of your paper!!!

Do you have your students create portfolios?

Are you going to try this in your classroom?
