Online Learning: Practical Reading with Tractionalbe

I’ve taught high school students for over 13 years and I’ve noticed that the majority of them are good at reading, but they have trouble comprehending what they’re reading and making the connection to how it applies to them. Does this sound familiar?

As a homeschool parent, you’re working to teach literature and trying to keep your kids engaged with what they’re reading. A few months ago, a friend of mine and I started dreaming about a book club, and the number one thing that we determined, was that we wanted it to be more than a book club. We didn’t want it to be just about reading the book, most people are good at that, we wanted it to be about making connections and taking action.

Originally, I wasn’t even thinking about homeschool students when we designed it. However, now that it’s up and running, I see how perfect it for homeschool students.

Each month we read a different book. The book comes with a video overview, along with an action guide, that walks you through step by step, how to reflect on the reading and connect to your life. Many high school students get frustrated with the books that they read because they don’t understand the point. They don’t see how what they’re reading is connected to their life.

Tractionable, selects books that are related to small business , creativity, and education. If you have a teenager or you’re someone that is thinking about taking a gap year, aka a year off, before attending college, this is a great fit for you. Each month is set up like a mini course, without the test.

In May, we’re reading the book Joyful. If you have a love for art, design, aesthetics, and finding Joy in surprising ways, this is the one for you.

To help you get stated, I want to give you some tips on how to take notes, as that is one of the biggest hurdles that people to have to remembering what they read. There are many different ways that you can take notes, and in fact, inside of Tractionalbe, you’ll see how differently the co-founders take notes, as we provide our notes for each book. If you don’t have a system that works for you, the best way is to start experimenting and adapt as you go.

One more thing to help you read more this month, is to join us in a game of BINGO, grab your bingo card and tag @tractionalbe on instagram as you go.
