Helping Students Plan
Do you have students that always submit their work late? Do you feel like you’re losing students now that you’re teaching online?
I’ve been teaching for 14 years, 8 of those years have been online. While it can be hard to get students to submit work when you see them in person, it’s often even harder online.
In order to address students not submitting their work, it’s important to first understand the reasons why they might not be submitting it.
- They don’t understand the assignment
- They don’t have the needed tools/resources at home
- They have assignments from other teachers as well and are having trouble keeping track of everything
- They ran out of time
Those are just a few of the reasons that your students might not be submitting your work. Today, we’re going to talk about time and planning.
Even as adults we struggle with arriving at appointments on time and getting everything crossed off of our lists, why do we expect that students should somehow be experts?
To help my AP Art students find success, we had a mini-lesson on planning.
*Note: At the start of the audio, you’ll hear that we had some tech issues. I was going to edit out, however decided it might be helpful for you to hear, that sometimes things don’t go as planned. My computer froze and forced me to restart as I was getting ready to teach the students. We meet via zoom, however, due to keeping the student’s identity private, I’m only sharing the audio.
