Data Visualization: learning to see and record information around you.

Data Visualization is a growing field that helps us to understand and process a wide range of information through visuals. You don’t need a degree or fancy software to get started, you just need a willingness to observe, collect, and create.

Data is anything that we choose to measure. That could be how many sneakers you have in your closet, tracking what people you meet, where you’ve traveled, or what you eat for breakfast. Data Visualization is about collecting the information and then creating a visual representation.

Unpacking Creative Thinking Processes

This course is for any high school student that wishes to get a better understanding of how our minds work to solve problems and develop solutions. Similar to the scientific method, there is a lot of research behind how our minds work to solve creative problems. Once students understand the process, they can use it to their advantage to develop ideas faster and move projects forward.  This course helps students think critically and understand how to apply that to all areas of their life and learning. Students do not need any past art experience.

Exploring Idea Generation and Visual Literacy through sketchbooks

This course is for any high school student that wishes to get a better understanding of how to develop ideas and how to communicate them visually. This course is designed to work for a range of levels. You can take this course as more of an intro to art and stick to working to getting a basic understanding of how the elements and principles of art are used to communicate and explore some new ways to develop ideas in your sketchbook. OR, you can choose to take what you already know about creating images, and push it even further. It’s also a great course for students that love art, and want to further develop their skills and ability to communicate.

Think of art as a new language to learn and explore. Colors, shapes, and lines, all carry meaning.

The basic definition of visual literacy is the ability to read, write and create visual images. Visual literacy is about language, communication, and interaction. Visual media is a linguistic tool with which we communicate, exchange ideas, and navigate our complex world.
