Reaching Your Goals, One Action at a Time

If you want to be a writer, you have to write.
If you want to be an artist, you have to create.
If you want to be a publisher, you have to publish.

On the surface, this seems simple, yet so many people struggle with doing what they say they want to do. They just like the idea of it because they don’t know what it means to be a writer, artist, or publisher. Liking the idea of something will get you nowhere; you have to do what you say you want to do every day, learning and pivoting as you go.

You must do it poorly to learn to do it well.
You have to tell and show others that you’re doing it and choose to keep going even if they don’t seem to care.
You have to be willing to adjust as you can better define what you want and why you want it.

If you need help getting started, find someone doing what you think you want to do and stalk them. Well not really, but find out everything that you can about them. When do they wake up? How do they start their day? Where do they find ideas? How much time do they spend creating each day? What do they do when they are stuck? Then pretend you are them.

If they get up at 5, you get up at 5.
If they finished a painting today, you finish a painting today.
If they shared their work on Instagram today, you share your work on Instagram today.

Why this works.

You’re not making decisions anymore; Sally, your favorite writer, is making the decisions for you, and you’re following along until you develop a pattern. You’re creating a pattern that leads to a habit of action that is so good and strong that others want to copy YOU!

When I reflect that I’m not publishing many blog posts or sending out many emails, I turn into Ash Ambrige. If she sends me an email, I need to send an email. If she makes a sales pitch, then I have to make a sales pitch. If she does a flash sale where you can buy a VERY special offer for 24 hours ONLY, then I will make a secret flash sale that you can access for 24 hours ONLY.

So what do you keep saying that you want to do or become? Start doing that every day.
