5 Tips to Write about Artwork
There are many approaches that you can take to writing about your artwork. The most impactful include contextual information that helps the viewer better understand your ideas and processes that aren’t obvious from simply observing the artwork.
Below are five questions for you to explore while writing about your work.
- Write down your idea: What did you want to create?
- Explain the background of your idea: What made you curious?
- Describe interesting parts of your process: Did you make interesting material selections, design your tools, or apply an exciting process?
- Explain what you learned: Did you learn something or gain new ideas through creating?
- List what elements and principles of art you explored: What elements and principles did you use, and how did they support the communication of your ideas?
