Mommy/Daddy and Me Art Classes
Children are born with both a desire to be curious and creative. You’re child naturally finds joy in coloring, marking making, and exploring.
You know that creativity is important for both your child’s emotion wellbeing, but also for the ability to problem solve, as they grow up.
Many adults hear the words art and creativity, and start to break out into a cold sweat, believing that they “aren’t creative” and “can’t draw.” Making it challenging to support their children in creative ventures.
It doesn’t have to be hard or scary, and you don’t have be creative yourself, you just need to be open to the process.
I can’t remember a time in my life where I didn’t love creating. Neither of my parents would tell you that they’re creative, or that they like art, however, they noticed my love for making and let me go with it.
This love of making grew, and became the foundation for my career as a teacher, and opened doors to my starting my own business, and running a gallery.
8 years ago I graduated from Messiah College with my B.S. in art education, and a few later finished my masters in Creativity Studies ( basically looking at the psychology of how the creative mind works). I’ve taught high school art for 7 years, and spend time on the weekends, either creating in my own studio, or running private workshops for all ages.
I don’t take credit for the idea of the Mommy and Me art classes, this baby was born because mom’s, like you, asked for it, and it sounded like a blast.
Who is the class for?
Moms or dads and children 18months- 5 years of age.
Can I bring more than one child?
Of course, the more the merrier right?
Do I need to have art skills?
Nope! This class is very much about process and not about the finished product. It’s about having fun, meeting new people, and getting both you and your child comfortable with creating.
My toddler is not a big fan of sitting still, is this going to be a really structured environment?
No. This is not at all like going to school with your child. While I’m a teacher, I’m rather laid back in my methods. A creative environment is one where everyone is comfortable, there is freedom to move and explore.
How many people will be in this class?
It will be limited to a total of 10 ( that’s including the adults)
I’ve never gone to an art class before, how should I dress?
While I love having fun with style, this isn’t the time to pull out your best clothes. You want to be comfortable, and okay with getting a messy. It’s pretty hard to make art and stay clean. Also feel free to bring along an art apron or art shirt for you and your child ( children)
I”m normally still finishing my first cup of coffee at this time? ( Well that’s a joke, I”m normally chasing my kid around, pretending to have my first cup of coffee)
Getting everybody dressed and out the door in the morning can be a little crazy. I’ll have coffee at the gallery, I just ask that you bring your favorite mug.
What do I need to bring?
All supplies are covered in the cost of the class. You just need to bring yourself and your child.
