Unpacking AP Studio Art Rubric: Row B

The rubric that the college board uses to score the sustained investigation for the AP Studio Art Portfolio is an analytic rubric, with 4 rows. An analytic rubric means that each row is scored independently. In this series, we’re going to look at examples provided by the college board, row by row. If you haven’t already, check out this post to explore row A.

Explore what it looks like to earn a 2 in Row B for 2D Design.

Now, contrast that with scoring a 3 in Row B for 2D design. Remember that a 3 is as high as you can score in each row.

Practice, Experimentation, and Revision

  • Explore experimenting with processes and materials in your sketchbook.
  • Reflect on if there are pieces that you want to revise based on your ideas, processes, or composition. You might crop images, or cut out parts that you like and collage them into a new piece.
  • Practice a new medium in your sketchbook.
